Cloudways Premium Vs Standard – Which is best?

Cloudways is a managed cloud hosting platform that creates, distributes, scales and manages web applications. For a more robust hosting experience, Cloudways offers high-performance standards and best-in-class technologies.

When hosting your website or application on Cloudways, you have two choices of DigitalOcean plans standard and premium. While both offer great features, you should know some critical differences before deciding.

In this blog post, we'll compare the two types of DigitalOcean plans side-by-side so you can make the best decision for your needs. Here's what we'll be covering;

Cloudways Premium Vs Standard – Performance

The DigitalOcean Premium series does not significantly improve over the Standard series in terms of performance.

When I tested the performance of Standard and premium DigitalOcean plans with my site, I found that both standard and premium plans had almost the same performance results.

The standard site recorded an average TTFB of 335ms, and the premium version recorded a TTFB of 328ms.

Coming to the uptime of both plans, the Cloudways standard site recorded an uptime of 100%, whereas the premium site recorded an uptime of 99.99%.

So, I would say that if you are thinking of switching over to the premium series for exceptional performance results, then don't do that. You can stay with the standard plan and enjoy the same performance benefits.

Cloudways Premium Vs Standard – Processors and Memory

How quickly a computer interprets instructions depends on its processor. Robust Intel Xeon Second Generation Scalable Processors with integrated AI acceleration and Intel mesh architecture are used in Cloudways DigitalOcean Premium.

The CPUs in Cloudways DigitalOcean Premium are more potent than those in the Standard series. The processor clock determines the speed at which your CPU can retrieve and interpret instructions. Therefore, due to their sturdy architecture, 3.90 GHz CPUs enable speedier content delivery.

These processors' base and maximum turbo frequencies are 2.50 GHz and 3.90 GHz, respectively. This makes it possible for Cloudways Premium to perform noticeably better than the Standard series.

The Standard series of Cloudways employs SSD storage, whereas the Premium series incorporates accelerated memory and NVMe storage. It's critical to realize that NVMe SSD drives offer quicker read/write speeds than conventional SATA SSD drives. The memory performance has also improved thanks to the 2933 GHz frequency.

Cloudways Premium Vs Standard Pricing

Both Cloudways Standard and Premium plans are offered by DigitalOcean.

Cloudways Premium:

There are five different plans for Cloudways Premium.

The lowest plan starts for as low as $12 per month, including 1 GB of RAM, 1 core, and 25 GB of storage, and for more upgraded versions, customers can choose the highest plan of $160 to avail of maximum benefit.

Cloudways Standard:

Customers have a choice of up to eleven different plans through Cloudways Standard.

The lowest tier costs $10 per month and includes 1 GB of RAM, 1 core, 25 GB of storage, and 1 TB of bandwidth, and the highest tier with 8 GB of RAM, a 4-core processor, 160 GB of storage, and 5 TB of bandwidth costs $80 a month.

Upgrading an Existing Server into a New DigitalOcean Premium Droplet

If you already use DigitalOcean, using a vertical scaling function, you can quickly scale up to a new DigitalOcean Premium Droplet. Otherwise, you can clone your server if you currently use another cloud provider and want to move.

Shifting from an Existing DigitalOcean Server

Suppose you want to switch from a Standard Server to a Premium Droplet using the vertical scaling capability. In that case, you should know the technical specifications and price of the premium and standard Cloudways. The steps required to do it are listed below:

Important

  • Before doing any server scaling operations, we advise creating an on-demand server backup to ensure you have a solid restoration point in case you need to roll back the versions of your applications.
  • Your server will be down during the scaling operation while resources are allocated. While the procedure should move quickly and efficiently, it's a good idea to scale during off-peak hours to lessen the impact of downtime on your website.

  1. Utilize your login information to access your Cloudways Platform.
  2. Open Servers in the menu bar at the top.
  3. Then decide which server you want to scale up.
  4. Select Vertical Scaling under Server Management.
  5. Hover your mouse over various server sizes under “server size” to see additional details. Once you've made a decision, choose that serving size.
  6. Then select Scale Now.
  7. There will be various prompts about the scaling process. Click Proceed when you are ready to move forward.

Your server may need a few minutes to restart with the updated configuration.

Changing Your Current Server for a Premium Droplet from DigitalOcean

Clone the server to upgrade from another cloud provider to a new DigitalOcean Premium Droplet.

  1. Use your email address and password to access your Cloudways Platform.
  2. Open Servers in the menu bar at the top.
  3. Then decide the server you want to use.
  4. Choose Clone Server, then click.
  5. A request to start the cloning process will appear. Select Yes.
  6. Select DigitalOcean as the provider of your infrastructure.
  7. Next, choose the server size you want.
  8. Decide where your server will be.
  9. At last, select Clone Server.

In a few minutes, your new instance will be launched. Please remember that the cloning procedure only produces an exact copy of the information on your website. It doesn't combine previously used settings or configurations made through the platform. After the cloning procedure, you must update your DNS records and follow the take site live checklist to launch your website.

Which Cloudways Plan Is Better, Premium or Standard?

DigitalOcean is an excellent cloud infrastructure provider or application hosting platform. You can find the ideal droplet for your needs; the support team is outstanding. Your chosen plan is important because it determines how much you will pay monthly.

The most expensive plan is the premium plan, but it includes the most features. Despite the higher cost, several compelling reasons exist to choose the premium Cloudways plan over the standard Cloudways plan.

The standard plan is the most affordable, but it lacks features. It is entirely up to you to choose the best plan for you.
